Songwriter unknown Declan Hunt's recording is the only version I've come across. From the triple album, Songs of Ireland's 1916 Rising (tape(disc) 2 song 10) I'd expect Declan may have also released this, but Ive not come across any of his albums. Standard Tuning time signature 4/4 tempo: (havent checked) the metronome and me dont get on that well... may fill in later Chords and picking pattern (my own, not an attempt to cover Declan) Chord tab / name / string numbers to pick 320033 / G / 64312353 xx0232 / D / 43212343 xx0212 / D7 / 43212343 If you are unfamiliar with the name Cathal Brugha (phonetic Cahal Brua) some pronounce the A in Cathal as in cAt some as in fAll... i go with the latter Poetic licence is used with Brugha in the song, shortened to Brugh (phonetic Bru) whole song is G G G D DDtwDicD7e pGerG verse i put in the last bar on both lines to give space between sentences, you may want to try it withoutVERSE 1in the Gstreets of Dub-lin Gcity, Ear-ly Grose the mor-ning Dsun D Stood a Dgall-ant band of Dsoldiers, Each man D7prou-dly held a Ggun G Till the Glast they fought them Gbravely, standing Gstaunch and fight-ing Dtrue D In their Dmidst there stood a Dleader, Ire-lands D7daunt-less Cath-al GBrugh GVERSE 2A-nother Gfaith-ful son of GIreland, By the Gtraitors hands shot Ddown D One of DIre-lands best and Dbravest, In heaven D7wears the martyrs Gcrown G Till he Gdied he fought them Gbravely, To the Gold cause he was Dtrue D Dash-ing Dforth he fell in Daction, Ire- lands D7daunt-less Cath-al GBrugh GVERSE 3When they Gbatter-ed on the Gfour courts, With their Gborrow-ed Brit-ish Dguns D Trait-ors Din the pay of DEngland, Shot down D7Irelands faithful Gsons G when they Gcalled on them Gsurr-ender, We are Gmany you're but Dfew D We'll have Ddeath be-fore dis-Dhonour, Proud-ly D7an-swered Cath-al GBrugh GVERSE 4Cathal GBrugh you'll be re-Gmembered In our GIr-ish hearts with Dpride D For the Dblood you shared in DDublin, Ire-lands cD7ause you sanc-tif-Gied G When they Glaid him low in Gagony, 'neath an GIrish sky of Dblue, D Tell them Dall I died for DIreland, Soft- ly D7murmured Cath-al GBrugh G
